Meet Dr. John Ahern, our new Integration Fellow

After spending six months as a Fulbright Scholar in HSDM’s Office of Global and Community Health in 2016, John Ahern, MD, DMD, MPH, PhD, has returned to Harvard School of Dental Medicine to work with the Initiative to Integrate Oral Health and Medicine. Ahern arrived in August and will serve as the Initiative’s Integration Fellow through the summer of 2020.

Shots Urged for Cancer Prevention

Enjoy this interview with Alessandro Villa, DDS, PhD, MPH, on the importance of HPV vaccinations. Villa is an assistant professor of Oral Medicine here at HSDM, as well as an associate surgeon in the division of Oral Medicine and Dentistry at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Villa specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of oral cancers.

Sung Eun Choi, PhD, recently presented at the Society for Medical Decision Making's 41st annual North American meeting, "Many Views on Value," in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Choi's presentation was titled, "Impact of Treating Oral Disease on Preventing Vascular Diseases."
Lisa Simon, DMD, spoke on the integration of oral health and medicine at the American Student Dental Association (ASDA) National Leadership Conference on November 2. She was also recently awarded the Dr. David Whiston Leadership Award from the ADA Foundation.
Hawazin Elani, PhD, presented her research, "Effects of the Affordable Care Act Medicaid expansion on subjective well-being: quasi-experimental evidence from the United States adult population,' at the Society for Epidemiologic Research's annual meeting in Baltimore.
