Year 2 Projects

Qualitative evaluation of the impact of oral health integration on training outcomes among non-dental program/school champions

In the first year, CIPCOH conducted nationwide surveys to assess the range and depth of oral health curricula integration and interventions currently being used across fourteen primary care specialties/settings, including but not limited to nursing, medical, and physician assistant programs. The next phase of CIPCOH’s work will allow us to identify successful integration efforts including champions and change agents of these efforts and look at barriers faced by programs that have not incorporated oral health into their curriculum.

An evaluation framework for oral health training programs in primary care

This project will build on the knowledge gained from the systematic review, conducted in year 1 of oral health curriculum in primary care training, to build a framework for evaluating the integration of oral health training programs into primary care. Specifically, we will review the literature to examine existing theoretical frameworks, organizational structure, implementation demands, and outcomes. Additionally, input will be solicited from community health centers (CHCs) and Community of Practice members who are already implementing oral health training into primary care.
